Large vintage Flokati rug in natural wool – 180 × 290 cm – 1960s-1970s

Impressive vintage Flokati rug with long pile, made of natural wool in ivory to cream white color.

The rug features the characteristic construction of traditional Flokati rugs: a soft, fully woven, slightly felted backing, without a latex backing or glued synthetic backing. The long wool fibers are directly integrated into the rug's structure.

Its large size of 290 × 180 cm makes it ideal as a main rug in a living room, bedroom, or contemporary interior. It can also be displayed vertically as a striking wall hanging.

The surface is particularly soft and voluminous. Variations in the direction of the hair naturally create different reflections depending on the lighting and the angle of view.

The animal nature of the fiber was verified on a detached thread: characteristic smell of burnt hair and crumbly black ash, result consistent with a wool fiber.

A Greek origin is highly probable given the technique, the reverse, the material, and the density. However, as no maker's mark has been preserved, this origin cannot be formally guaranteed.

State

Very good overall vintage condition.

The rug has recently been carefully cleaned, fully dried, vacuumed and gently combed to restore volume to the fibers.

No holes, tears, or significant missing pieces were found. Slight variations in cream or ivory hues and minor shades may be visible depending on the light and the direction of the pile. These are consistent with the natural wool and the age of the rug.

The edges remain supple and even. The slight irregularities in the weave and fibers are part of the character of this vintage textile.

Shipping

The rug will be carefully rolled up, then possibly folded gently to reduce the volume of the package.

It will be protected by several waterproof layers and placed in reinforced outer packaging. Shipping will be tracked and insured.

After receiving it, simply unroll it, let it regain its flat shape, then put the strands back in place by hand or with a wide-tooth comb.
