The item for sale is a unique collector's set comprising two original ashtrays from the Spirale series, manufactured by the renowned Italian company Alessi. The set includes two sought-after sizes: the smaller one with a diameter of 12 cm and the larger one with a diameter of 16 cm. This design represents the pinnacle of 20th-century global utilitarian design and is an excellent example of the harmony between pure functionality and the sculptural form of postmodernism. The history of this revolutionary concept dates back to 1970, when the brilliant Italian architect and designer Achille Castiglioni initially developed it for the Bacci department store in Bologna. Recognizing the ingenuity and timelessness of this form, Alessi adopted and adapted the design for its catalog in 1986, making slight modifications and turning it into a worldwide commercial success. Achille Castiglioni, considered one of the most important figures in modern design, became famous for redefining everyday objects by imbuing them with hidden intelligence. For the Spirale model, the ingenious solution was the use of a large, removable stainless steel spring, resting on the rim of a deep dish.
