FAQ
Subscription and commission
Why pay a subscription when other platforms only take a commission?
TheAuctionLab operates on a commission-free model. Unlike marketplaces that charge 15 to 20% of each sale, you keep 100% of your margin. The subscription is a fixed and transparent cost that allows you to control your expenses. It is used to finance the continuous improvement of the platform: SEO, ergonomics, new features, and security. You benefit from a premium environment to sell your items without relying on a variable commission.
Aren't subscriptions just a way to make money without actually selling?
No. Subscriptions ensure that TheAuctionLab remains neutral and serves all its sellers. Unlike commission-based platforms, we have no incentive to favor certain sellers over others. Your subscriptions directly finance the quality of our service, SEO optimization, international visibility, and the constant evolution of our tools. You know exactly what you're paying for, with no hidden fees.
Are there any hidden fees in addition to the subscription?
No. The only additional fees are those of the payment provider (Stripe), which applies 1,4% + €0,25 for payments within Europe and up to 2,9% + €0,25 for payments outside Europe. You also have the option to accept payment by bank transfer or directly in store, at no additional cost.
Can I cancel my subscription at any time?
Yes. Monthly subscriptions are non-binding and can be cancelled directly from your seller account. Annual subscriptions are more cost-effective (2 months free), but require a 12-month commitment.
Exclusivity and seller freedom
Should I sell exclusively on TheAuctionLab?
No. TheAuctionLab does not impose any exclusivity. You are free to list your products on multiple marketplaces simultaneously.
Can I put my products on multiple marketplaces at the same time?
Yes. TheAuctionLab is designed as a strategic addition. You can be present on 1stDibs, Selency, Pamono, Whoppah, Proantic, or other platforms while still publishing your listings on TheAuctionLab.
Can I reuse the texts from my files elsewhere?
No. To protect the SEO of your listings, we prohibit the reuse of TheAuctionLab text on other sites. Duplicate content is penalized by Google and reduces online visibility. This policy protects your chances of appearing high in search results.
Comparison with other platforms
I'm already on 1stDibs, what's my interest in joining TheAuctionLab too?
1stDibs is a must-have global showcase, but it charges a high commission (15 to 30%). TheAuctionLab is complementary: zero commission, direct relationship with your customers, no exclusivity, and simplified online listing. You reach a different clientele while maintaining all your margins.
I'm already on Selency, why should I also be on TheAuctionLab?
Selency brings in volume, but charges a significant commission and manages customer relations through its own messaging system. With TheAuctionLab, your contact information is visible, you maintain direct contact with your buyers, and you don't lose any margin. Furthermore, our positioning is resolutely premium, focused on high-end design, art, and antiques.
I'm already on Pamono, what else does TheAuctionLab offer me?
Pamono is international, but its commissions are high and its rules strict. TheAuctionLab offers a cost-effective alternative: zero commission, complete freedom, fast online listing, and complementary visibility. Our buyers seek design and art pieces in a selective, high-end environment.
I'm already on Whoppah, is it useful to also be on TheAuctionLab?
Whoppah attracts a broader, more consumer-oriented audience. TheAuctionLab stands out for its selective, premium positioning: exclusively professional sellers, account validation, and a coherent catalog spanning design, art, and antiques. It's a high-end showcase that better showcases your products.
I already have an account on Proantic, is it relevant to add TheAuctionLab?
Yes. Proantic focuses on classical antiquities. TheAuctionLab is complementary: we bring together contemporary design, art, decoration, and premium antiques. Being on both platforms allows you to reach two distinct clientele and maximize your sales opportunities.
Concierge and online publishing
Is the concierge service unlimited?
No. Publishing is unlimited if you place your ads yourself. The Concierge Service, where we write and publish your ads with a simple email, is included for 5 ads per month in the Pro Plus subscription. Options exist to go beyond that.
How many listings are included with Pro Plus Concierge?
The Pro Plus plan includes concierge services for 5 listings per month. Beyond that, each additional listing is charged: €4 if you already provide a description, €7 if we write the full listing. For large volumes, a catalog import package is available.
Can I import a complete list of my products?
Yes. We offer a catalog import service from your files (Excel or CSV).
€99 excluding VAT for up to 100 ads,
€199 excluding VAT for up to 300 ads,
personalized quote beyond.
How long does it take to put my first ads online?
A self-employed seller can post their first listings in less than 15 minutes. With our concierge service, we publish your listings within 48 business hours of receiving your photos and information.
Visibility and SEO
Will my ads appear on Google?
Yes. All listings published on TheAuctionLab are SEO-optimized to appear in search engine results.
Are my ads automatically translated?
Yes. Your ads are automatically translated into 10 languages, giving them international visibility and increasing your chances of finding buyers abroad.
Will my batches appear in search engines using AI (ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc.)?
Yes. Our product listings are structured to be understood and indexed by artificial intelligence search engines. This ensures that your listings can appear in the results offered by these new tools.
Can I add my social media or website to my store?
Yes. You can display your social media and embed the link to your TheAuctionLab store in your own profiles to create a cohesive ecosystem and attract more traffic.
Logistics and customer relations
Does TheAuctionLab handle shipping?
No. You retain control over your carriers, rates, and delivery times. You can choose to offer a fixed price or a personalized quote based on the lot. TheAuctionLab does not take any margin on shipping. However, we can assist you by directing you to reliable providers as an additional service.
How do I get paid after a sale?
You're paid directly by the buyer, either via Stripe, bank transfer, or in-store if you agree. TheAuctionLab never collects the money and doesn't hold your payments.
What happens if a buyer has a complaint?
You remain in direct contact with the buyer to manage the situation. If necessary, our team can intervene to facilitate communication, but you retain control over your sales conditions and your customer relationship.
Can I display my WhatsApp number to be contacted directly?
Yes. WhatsApp can be integrated into your listings so buyers can contact you quickly and directly.
Sales and market
Will I sell faster on TheAuctionLab than on other platforms?
Sales speed depends on several factors: the quality of your photos, the relevance of your descriptions, the price relative to the market, and the nature of the product. Certain designers or categories of objects experience periods of high demand linked to trends and specialized media. TheAuctionLab maximizes your chances of selling through optimized SEO, international distribution, editorial concierge services, and editorial promotion.
What types of products are accepted?
TheAuctionLab accepts designer furniture, contemporary art, high-end decor, lighting, quality vintage pieces, and premium antiques. All seller accounts are validated to ensure catalog consistency and quality.
Is there a limit to the number of products I can publish?
No. Publishing is unlimited, whether you are on the Pro or Pro Plus plan.
How many photos can I put per ad?
It is recommended to add at least 3 quality photos. You can post more to enhance your products and increase your chances of selling.
Can I sell outside Europe?
Yes. You choose the areas you agree to ship to. Multilingual translations enhance your international visibility.
Selectivity and positioning
Can I register as an individual?
No. TheAuctionLab is reserved for professional sellers (dealers, galleries, antique dealers, designers). Individuals can be referred to professional partners who will know how to enhance the value of their pieces.
Why do some products appear as sold by TheAuctionLab?
Some lots come from established premium sellers or from partnerships with other professional platforms. The goal is to enrich the overall offering and attract more buyers. This increases traffic, which benefits all sellers.
Do you also accept antique dealers?
Yes. Professional antique dealers are welcome, provided their pieces are premium and consistent with TheAuctionLab's universe (period furniture, art objects, decorative antiques). This enriches our catalog and attracts a clientele complementary to that of contemporary design.
Do you also accept suppliers of new furniture or objects (such as Maison & Objet)?
Yes, if their products correspond to our high-end universe and are aimed at a clientele of demanding professionals and collectors.
How does The AuctionLab Increases Merchant Visibility, Encourages Physical Gallery Visits, and Simplifies Online Purchasing: Frequently Asked Questions
Move aside The AuctionLab Does it encourage customers to buy only online?
No. Our role is not to distract buyers from the physical experience, but rather to prepare them for it. Each product page is designed to to make you want to discover the play in real lifeto feel its materials, its scale, its presence.
Online shopping is just one additional optiondesigned for customers who want to move quickly, confirm a decision already considered, or buy remotely in a secure environment.
We therefore encourage both visit et the ease of purchase.
Is there a risk that digital technology will replace the direct relationship between the dealer and the collector?
Never. The AuctionLab does not intervene in the business relationship:
We do not negotiate.
We do not set the prices.
We do not capture customers,
We play no role in the human transaction.
Each contact initiated from the platform redirects the client to the merchant, which remains the expert, advisor and reference in matters of authenticity, restoration and value.
Digital technology does not erase the relationship: it amplifies it.
Why offer online purchasing if you value gallery visits so much?
Because the market has changed profoundly. Contemporary collectors have a hybrid career path:
they discover online,
They confirm their choice in the gallery.
and they buy where they feel most comfortable.
Our role is to support this natural behavior.
Online shopping offers an immediate, clear and secure solution for those who cannot travel or who wish to confirm their decision quickly.
This does not detract from the value of physical encounters — it complements them.
Don't the platforms risk imposing their algorithms and making merchants dependent?
This is a legitimate concern regarding the model of large international platforms, but it does not apply to The AuctionLab.
We are one independent platform, editorialized, where the emphasis depends on:
the quality of the parts,
the consistency of the curation,
aesthetic relevance,
and the actual customer interest.
No opaque algorithm decides for you.
Our approach is humane, transparent, and respectful of the merchant profession.
Auctions sometimes attract more attention: doesn't this disadvantage the merchants?
Auctions create their own unique emotional phenomenon: competition, artificial scarcity, adrenaline.
But this model is not sustainable for a merchant.
The AuctionLab On the contrary, it proposes:
prices that are easy to read,
a direct relationship,
a skillfully crafted narrative,
a continuous enhancement of expertise.
Here, the customer does not buy under pressure:
He buys it because he understands the piece, its history, its designer, its authenticity.
Are physical galleries threatened by the digitalization of the market?
The market is changing, yes, but it is not disappearing: it is processes.
Digital technology is not a competitor to the gallery: it is the entrance to it.
A customer who would never have set foot in a store discovers a room online, is captivated, and then decides to see it.
The AuctionLab fully supports this movement: we give merchants a wider sceneby showcasing their work and expertise.
Does the merchant retain total control over their prices and conditions?
Always.
You set your prices. You decide your margins. You define your terms.
The platform does not negotiate anything, impose anything, or direct anything.
Your commercial freedom is total and non-negotiable.
At The AuctionLabWe value the meeting between collectors and dealers.
Our platform is designed to make people want to see the pieces, touch the materials, understand their history — but also to facilitate online purchasing when the customer wants to move forward quickly and smoothly.
Digital technology opens the door; the merchant's expertise confirms the choice.
