The designer:
Virgil Abloh (1980–2021), a multifaceted creative force, was born in Rockford, Illinois. His range of skills encompassed a wide variety of disciplines, including art, architecture, engineering, creative direction, industrial design, fashion design, music, DJing, and philanthropy. Abloh began his education by earning a degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, followed by a master's degree in architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago. It was during his time at IIT, where he studied under the influential design program developed by Mies van der Rohe, that Abloh began to lay the foundations for his artistic practice. In the summer of 2019, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago hosted a major retrospective of Abloh's work, which became one of the most attended exhibitions in the museum's history.
