The Rolex Datejust reference 16030 embodies the culmination of the legendary design initiated in 1945, refined by the Swiss watchmaker through successive generations. This 36 mm stainless steel watch, produced between 1977 and 1988, represents for collectors the ultimate vintage expression of the model in a sport case. In the eyes of many collectors, the Rolex ref. 16XXX family represents the last vintage Datejust models, and the ref. 16030 in particular in steel.

By the time the series was launched in 1977, the name was already over 30 years old, having been introduced the same year as the end of World War II. It took over from the four-digit 16XX references—the range that had truly finalized the overall design of the Datejust—and carried it until 1988.

The ref. 16030 somehow managed to be discreet while displaying a little touch of flamboyance that distinguished it from the others in the range.

The Datejust ref. 16030 was the direct replacement for the previous ref. 1603, which had been in production since 1959.

As with this watch, the reference number for this new generation was used to describe a piece with a 36mm stainless steel case, topped with an engine-turn patterned steel bezel.
