Michele De Lucchi was a founding member of the Milanese design group Memphis, which formed in 1981 around Ettore Sottsass. Memphis embodies a joyfully irreverent design, playing with fundamental elements, vibrant colors, and geometric plastic laminates. In 1983, Michele De Lucchi designed his Memphis First chair, whose armrests are two black spheres and whose backrest is formed by a circular plate. The miniature of the First was produced by the Vitra Design Museum between 1992 and 2010. Dimensions of the miniature: 102 x 74 mm, 145 mm high. Scale of the miniature: 1:6. Miniature item number: 20214101. The main element of the miniature is a round stool, to which is attached, on its front legs, a steel tube curved in an arc to accommodate the armrests and backrest. The entire steel tube frame is silver-colored, the seat is molded from lightly shaped plywood, and the balls are lacquered in glossy black. The backrest, molded from hollow-shaped plywood, is connected to the metal frame by rubber elements and painted light blue.
