This table lamp by Mazzega represents the pinnacle of Italian glassmaking from the 1970s. Combining clear and yellow-tinted glass, it embodies the Venetian manufacturer's modern approach to contemporary design trends. Mazzega, a prestigious glass workshop based in Murano, produced high-quality lighting fixtures, blending glassmaking tradition with the clean aesthetic of 1960s and 1970s design.

The room

The Mazzega lamp from this period reflects a context in which Murano was internationally renowned as a center of glass innovation. The 1970s marked a transition towards more streamlined forms, a departure from the blown baroque style of previous decades. This piece, with its interplay of clear and opalescent yellow glass, testifies to the technical mastery of Italian glassmakers and their ability to adapt the material to the codes of modern design. The structure, combining two layers of glass, creates a unique piece, prized by collectors of authentic Murano design. The absence of a visible signature in no way diminishes the quality of its attribution to Mazzega, a renowned manufacturer whose archives do not cover all of its production.

Materials & Manufacturing

Clear and yellow-tinted glass, blown and assembled using traditional Murano techniques. The creation of this lamp requires mastery of hot glass: the layering of two glass sheets creates the distinctive yellow hue, while the clear glass ensures the light's transparency. The finishes reflect rigorous craftsmanship, typical of Mazzega's 1970s production. The integration of the electrical system with the glass body demonstrates a functional balance characteristic of high-end Italian craftsmanship. Glass remains the primary material, structuring both the form and the optical function of the light fixture.

Conservation state

The lamp is in good overall condition, naturally showing subtle signs of wear. The glass retains its clarity and original yellow tint without any major alterations. Any micro-scratches or slight traces of use are consistent with the age and use of an authentic period piece. The electrical system has been checked and is functioning correctly. No major restoration has been undertaken, preserving the original integrity of the piece. The stated dimensions (H 26 × D 43 cm) correspond to the standards of the period for this type of accent lighting.
