A bold Beni M’rirt rug from the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco, hand-knotted in thick, lustrous wool by Berber weavers whose technique has been passed down, mother to daughter, for generations.
The design is built around an interlocking diamond lattice — the tribe’s most recognisable motif — rendered here in a vivid mustard yellow against a warm, cloud-grey ground. Look closely and the « grey » is never flat: it shifts in tone across the field, a signature of hand-spun, hand-dyed wool rather than machine uniformity. Long, hand-twisted fringes close each end, exactly as tradition dictates.
At 200 x 300 cm, this is a rug built to anchor a room — a living space, a dining area, a wide hallway — rather than sit quietly underfoot. Its graphic strength puts it closer to a piece of textile art than a conventional carpet.
