Heuer 980.029 – Early Pre-TAG Heuer Professional 200m Quartz Diver – “Wolf of Wall Street” Style

For sale is a rare and highly collectible early Heuer 980.029 Professional 200m quartz diver from the Pre-TAG Heuer era, dating from around 1982.

This reference belongs to the iconic Heuer / TAG Heuer Professional diver family and has the distinctive black-and-gold 1980s look often associated with the famous “Wolf of Wall Street” TAG Heuer 1000 style.

This particular example is especially interesting because it is an early Heuer-only execution. The black dial carries only the classic Heuer shield logo and does not have the later “1000” text under the logo. This makes it a desirable early version of the model.

The watch is fitted with its original Swiss ESA 536.121 quartz movement, including the Heuer-signed movement cover. The battery has been freshly replaced and the watch is currently running properly.

The watch comes on its original black-and-gold Heuer bracelet with Heuer-signed clasp. The black PVD coating is very well preserved for this reference, which is uncommon, as many examples show heavy wear to the coating. The watch has a beautiful, even vintage patina, giving it a very authentic and attractive appearance.

The outer caseback is marked with reference 980.029, 20 ATM, Quartz and Acier. The inside of the caseback is marked Heuer-Leonidas SA, Switzerland. The open caseback photos also show the ESA 536.121 quartz movement and the Heuer-signed movement cover.

The crown and outer caseback are unsigned, which is consistent with this early plain execution of the reference. The overall appearance, dial, bracelet, caseback and movement configuration make this a very appealing example for collectors of early Heuer Professional diver watches.
