The Omega Seamaster Cosmic represents a fascinating chapter in the brand’s storied history, emerging during the late 1960s when watchmaking design was heavily influenced by the space age. With its distinctive tonneau-shaped case and seamless lines, the Cosmic offered a futuristic alternative to traditional round dress watches while maintaining the robust reliability expected from the Seamaster family. This particular example, complete with its highly desirable beads of rice bracelet, captures the essence of late-sixties Omega design, offering collectors a mechanically sound and visually striking vintage timepiece.

Dial and Hands
The silver dial features a subtle sunburst finish that catches the light beautifully, complemented by an applied Omega logo and crisp black printed typography. The hour markers are applied faceted batons with black inserts, perfectly matching the original stick hands to ensure excellent legibility. A date window at three o’clock is framed by a stepped border. The dial exhibits clear signs of age and wear, most notably a sweeping surface scratch located between the one and two o’clock positions just above the date aperture, as well as localized spotting and degradation around the eleven o’clock index. The original tritium luminous plots have aged to a warm, creamy tone, adding a touch of authentic vintage patina.

Case and Crystal
The 35mm stainless steel tonneau case showcases Omega’s excellent mid-century case manufacturing. The upper surfaces feature a distinct radial brushed finish that contrasts handsomely with the polished case flanks. The transitions between the brushed and polished sections remain visible, with the case exhibiting normal, honest handling marks, light surface scratches, and minor edge wear consistent with a watch of this era. The solid caseback is deeply engraved with the iconic Seamaster Seahorse medallion alongside the Waterproof script and tool markings. The domed acrylic crystal presents cleanly and features the subtle Omega hallmark etched precisely in the center, while the original Omega-signed crown remains fitted to the case.

Movement
Inside beats the Omega caliber 613 manual wind movement, beautifully finished with the brand’s signature copper plating. The movement bridge clearly displays the caliber designation and the serial number 28381748, dating the watch’s production to approximately 1969. The 17-jewel mechanism presents a very clean visual appearance with intact screw heads and well-preserved plating. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. Timegrapher results indicate a performance of +20 to +30 seconds per day.

Strap
The watch is paired with an original stainless steel beads of rice bracelet, a highly sought-after configuration that elevates the wearing experience. The bracelet features the correct Omega-signed folding clasp and is fitted with endlinks stamped 529. It displays moderate stretch and surface wear typical of vintage use, comfortably accommodating a wrist size of up to 17.5 cm.

Condition
Good vintage condition. The case retains a strong structural shape with appealing factory finishes intact, despite normal age-related surface wear. The dial presents an attractive overall aesthetic but does bear specific, visible surface marks and localized aging as detailed in the visual inspection. The movement is running well, and the presence of the original signed bracelet completes a very honest and wearable vintage package.

Remarks
The Seamaster Cosmic is celebrated for its unibody-style aesthetic and robust engineering. Finding an example that retains its original signed crystal, crown, and matching beads of rice bracelet offers a complete and deeply satisfying vintage ownership experience. It is a versatile piece that bridges the gap between a daily wearer and a specialized collector’s item.

History
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Seamaster Cosmic was Omega’s bold response to the rapidly shifting design trends of the era. Moving away from conventional two-piece case constructions, many Cosmic models utilized a front-loading unibody design to enhance water resistance and create a sleeker, more aerodynamic profile on the wrist. The line became a testing ground for integrated shapes and dynamic dial layouts, securing its status today as a beloved cult classic among vintage Omega enthusiasts who appreciate its unique blend of mid-century elegance and space-age ambition.
