Dial and Hands
The champagne, gold-tone dial features a beautiful sunburst finish that remains exceptionally well-preserved, projecting a warm and attractive character. It is detailed with applied gold-tone baton indices and the signature Rolex coronet at twelve o’clock. The printed text is crisp and fully intact. Lume plots are present at the outer edges of the indices, showing consistent and even aging. A date window sits at three o’clock, magnified by the crystal’s cyclops lens. The gold-tone baton hands retain their lume inserts, which match the dial plots in color, while the metal surfaces of the hands display expected age-related oxidation and spotting.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features polished sides and brushed lug tops, presenting honest wear consistent with its age while retaining a good overall shape. There are visible scratches and scuffs on the polished flanks, along with some dirt and minor pitting visible between the lugs. Importantly, the reference and serial engravings between the lugs remain clear and legible. A smooth polished stainless steel bezel frames the dial, showing light scratches and wear consistent with the rest of the case. The watch is fitted with a screw-down crown featuring the Rolex coronet and an underline, with well-defined knurling. A domed acrylic crystal with a cyclops magnifier protects the dial, displaying some light surface scratches visible under certain lighting angles.
Movement
Powering the watch is the manual-wind Rolex caliber 1225. The movement is clean, with the plates and bridges showing minimal signs of wear or oxidation, and the screw heads remain in good condition. The bridges bear clear engravings reading Montres Rolex S.A., Geneva Swiss, Seventeen 17 Jewels, and 1225. Recording -3-6s/day on the timegrapher, the movement is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring contrasting stitching and an alligator-style pattern. It is secured by a stainless steel pin buckle that bears an applied Rolex coronet.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The watch presents a beautiful and highly preserved dial, while the hands show natural, age-related oxidation. The stainless steel case displays visible scratches and scuffs on the polished sections, as well as minor pitting between the lugs, maintaining an honest vintage character. The domed acrylic crystal exhibits light surface scratches. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34mm, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Oysterdate Precision is a highly appealing vintage Rolex, distinguished by its fantastic champagne sunburst dial and classic proportions.
